CRIME NEWS

  • Northampton County Sheriff’s Department warned community members today about a scam that tricks people by phone, text or flyers — instructing them to post a cash bond at local kiosks to avoid jail. Residents are urged to contact local police and report any suspicious communications.  Bethlehem Press

CULTURE NEWS

  • Bethlehem celebrated 60 years of preservation after Historic Bethlehem Inc signed a 99-year lease on July 1 to save old 18th and 19th century buildings along Monocacy Creek in the Colonial Industrial Quarter. Restoration on a stone wall is underway in preparation for a new $1.5-million Overlook on History — a glass-and-steel space that will join the Grist Miller’s House to Luckenbach Mill.  Bethlehem Press

ECONOMY NEWS

  • Fifteen trade publications reported that several Lehigh Valley manufacturers expanded in August and early September. The report highlighted investments such as Bosch Rexroth's $20 million logistics center — a boost for the region's manufacturing economy — and Kervan USA’s candy factory.  Lehigh Valley Economic Development

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Last Thursday, students and faculty gathered on Mountaintop Campus at Lehigh for the grand opening of Wandering Bee, a mobile art installation led by Professor Christina Chi Zhang under the Future Maker Grant. The structure was built in a five-week project by students and will move to other campus locations after its initial two weeks—inviting more campus discussion.  The Brown and White
  • Scranton-based Lackawanna College announced that its new Bethlehem Center—located at 3184 Airport Road in the former Triangle Tech facility—is now enrolling for associate degrees in carpentry and construction technology, electrical technology, and welding and fabrication technology. Pending federal approval, classes will begin in spring 2026 with additional programs like HVAC planned.  WLVR

  • Audrey Jimenez, a sophomore wrestler who won silver at the U20 World Championships in Bulgaria in August, will make her Senior World Championship debut in Zagreb this Saturday—she is also set to compete in the U23 World Championships in October.  The Brown and White
